Happy Mother's Day Patsy Thompson!

Happy Mother's Day, Mama! this year, for mother's day, we are taking you on a virtual trip to Henderson, Nevada. I know you haven't been able to come and see us in our virtual habitat, so we made some videos for you so you can experience life with the Leavitts. I wish we could be there with you today, but hopefully these videos will help you feel like you're here with us.

We love you!

Love- Jamie, Brandon and Abby

Welcome to the Leavitt house!  (You're going to want to turn your neck sideways, or watch this on a lap top so you can turn it sideways.)

Catching up- February and a bit of March

Happy February and beginning of March! While my blog completely missed February, it was a spectacular month and March is off to a good start. Since I only take pictures of about 3% of the things I do this catch up session shouldn't be too terribly painful!

This first picture is of Mrs. McCall, Abby's delightful first grade teacher, on the day of our Valentine's party. Being room mom is a real treat since I get to me there for all the fun stuff. I helped organize a gift from the class which came complete with a giant group hug. Super fun day!

This is Abby super sick. What? Don't you take your kids out of the house and have them pose for pictures atop cement rabbits in public places when they're running fevers? I just can't tell you how EXTREME my (and Abby's) cabin fever is, especially when it is nice out. I know that it's my style of parenting that causes world wide pandemics...next time, I'll disinfect the rabbit after and maybe then I won't feel so guilty.

The color runners!!! These are my friends Brityn, Max, Nick, Kylee and Lindsay They were kind enough to join me in a little fun 5K race in downtown Las Vegas. At each kilometer, you are pelted with various colored food coloring. It's a festivus of rainbows, unicorns, and all of the crazies you can imagine who take rainbows and unicorns seriously. While we had to wait more than an hour to start running, and even though we all rainbow boogers for days, and even though Lindsay's van almost got towed...I still think it was a success!

The Valentine's party again! Who's the best room mom in the whole wide world?

Abby during her music and academic performance night. She was in the middle on the bottom and was seriously cracking me up. She took this performance VERY seriously and if any other first grader started screwing around (like 95% of them) she'd get her stern face on and point at them and mouth correctional directions their way. Needless to say her pointer finger got quite the work out. I sure love my obedient, bossy, adorable, vocally gifted little munchkin!

You'd think all I do is stalk Abby's class all day long...which sometimes feels like the case. Here we are on our field trip to the secret garden at the Mirage. Oh Vegas...my child's field trip was to a hotel/casino...I try so hard to love you Vegas but sometimes it's just so, so hard. However, the secret garden really is awesome. We had lively tigers who were fighting, flipping dolphins putting on a show, and a tour guide who let the kids pet a real lion's whisker. I think I was the most enthused patron. I had a fabulous time! And I got to go for free!

Have I told you my kid is a hip hop sensation? She puts the f.u.n. in funky! While I put Abby in hip hop dance for exercise and because she seems to like it, I had no idea that she would take off like a sparkle booted rocket ship to the land of Getting Down. It's really fun to watch and I'm looking forward to the recital. She's lucky enough to have her friends Abbie and Sienna in there with her. It has been delightful!

This picture is like a knife to my heart. Here is the woman who dumped me and left me alone. This is Brityn Smith, the former first counselor in the primary presidency, on her last Sunday in our ward. She up, bought a house, and moved on from me. I am having serious readjustment pains.

I finally threw away my faux suede gray boots. Yes, they were stained, cracking and my husband told me, "homeless people have nicer shoes than you" but what really was the catalyst to throwing them out was when I walked across my lawn I could feel grass poking me in the socks. These boots have been to Europe, the Oregon coast, all over! It was hard to let them go, which is why they are memorialized here on my blog, so that I'm not left with thoughts of them in the Hefty sack in my trash can.
This is my nephew Parker. I am lucky enough to get to watch my nieces and nephews every Monday afternoon while Brinley (another niece) goes to physical therapy to work on correcting and strengthening the motor skills and muscles damaged by her brain tumor. I am happy to do it but I was completely unprepared for how much I would enjoy it...especially this kid! We have become really good buddies

This is a plastic yellow bucket, on a table, in a dark room. It is also the only representative picture of a super fun night out with friends. Our friends Nick, Arcy, Thomas and Dominic treated us to a night out. We went to a fabulous show called Recycled Percussion. Everybody got some type of trash (pots, pans, buckets) and a drum stick to play along with the show. It was so loud it made you sick to your stomach and that is how I like my music. It was a great time.

I sold a lot of my furniture and am, again, in the process of redecorating my house. Since this is always true, lets move on...

The posse rides again! well, at least three of us. My great friends Carrie and Katie came down for a girl's weekend and we had a blast! These two are supremely fun, talented, intelligent, gorgeous women who have shaped me and helped fill my life with hilariousness This picture is in front of the Bellagio. We asked a slightly inebriated Irish man to take it. He said "Sure" and then told us to smile and say "Sausage." Oh my sweet innocent friends...you are smiling like he asked...those of us hardened by the mean streets of Vegas are giving the camera a "Really?! Sausage? How cliché" look.

Other notables:

  • Brandon got a STELLAR annual review and a nice raise. We're RICH!!!! Ha! That is so funny! If I were to really celebrate it would be We're NOLONGERINSOLVENT!!!
  • Abby had crazy hair day at school. I tried to give her rainbow hair using chalk and a flat iron. Totally thought it would work because I saw it on pinterest and it linked me to a dog grooming website, so totally reputable...I about made her bald.
  • Sold girl scout cookies. Ate a lot of girl scout cookies.
  • Had a fabulous Leavitt super bowl party. No one ever knows what's going on in the game but we eat like it's our last meal.
  • My good friend Aspen came to town and we lunched.
  • Chad graduated with his MBA and we partied with Mexican food and crepes. The Leavitts have tasty celebrations.
  • We got a new air conditioner. It's a freakin' Cadillac of  air conditioners. I have never been more excited for a home appliance in my life.
And that's all I can remember off the top of my head...

Oh! Except....my friend Becky shared this video that I have to share with you. I about peed my pants.

We're off to a great start

What you get when you go on a double date and your husbands are nerds who are trying to activate their Panera Bread cards to get free pastries...
The second half of Christmas break was great. We rang in the new year with monopoly, sparkling grape juice, and fireworks. I can just tell 2013 is going to be the best year ever! I'm a week into my goals and so far so good...I have them apportioned by month. I am currently working on a.) flossing every day b.) completing Jamie Eason's 12-week program on bodybuilding.com. I start today. This will be my fourth start today. I've never made it past week 2 for the last 6 weeks. But this time it's going to be different (tongue firmly in cheek, but optimistic nonetheless!). c.) Not eating any dessert until my birthday (which is in October). So far, I've done great. Except....
We went to Disneyland. And I stood in the pineapple Dole Whip line (with all the rest of the world, 40 minute wait), but everyone told me that I needed to try one of these "Pineapple drinks." Now, it was worth every single goal breaking sip, but I don't count it as a total failure, because when purchased, I honestly believed it was going to be pineapple juice. But I am so, so glad it wasn't.
We did Disney with the entire Leavitt collective. We rented a house together and took over Disney like the wild pack of fun loving animals we are. The kids did AWESOME and even though we were sandwiched in the park like sardines and stood in record breaking lines, I still loved every minute of it! Having that many adults really allowed us some good divide, conquer and a quality 16-of-us-just-cut-in-front-of-you-because-that's-Grandma-who-held-our-spot-for-the-last-60-minutes-so-so-sorry-excuse-me-was-that-your-foot-I-stepped-on?-Pardon! strategy.
Happy New Year from Radiator Springs!!!

Christmas 2012

We had the best Christmas this year! I think it was thanks in large part to how many service opportunities we had. It's cliche, but it works- when you put Christ in Christmas in just gets better. Go figure!

This is Abby and I all gussied up for one of those service moments. We were getting ready to drop a gift off at someone's door and were going to run. Abby and I are similar in that the moment anxiety and fear hits, we go deer-in-the-headlights. I know we all talk about flight or fight. The missing 'F' word? Freeze. Thus, costumes were necessary in case we stood frozen legged on their lawn and were discovered. Fortunately, each night we did this, we were able to squeal our tires down their quiet street before discovery. Which is good, because if I found two homeless looking ladies in cheap sunglasses and Disney Princess wigs had dropped me a gift, I might be nervous to pick it up off the front porch.

We of course had to see the big guy. This was the Santa at Springs Preserve. Abby this year asked for one thing: a green pen like her teacher uses to correct papers with. I love this kid! Her teacher told me that she is the most well adjusted, giving only child she's ever met. (Which I take as a high compliment since she is the mother of an only child.) I've got to say, I fully agree. We added a new Christmas movie to our repertoire this year, "Stalking Santa." It's a mock-umentary about a guy who is a Santaologist and he is going to prove the existence of Santa. When asked the question about how does Santa make it to every child's house in one night, he goes through a hilarious set of graphs and numbers, adjusting for non-Christian households, non-believers, etc. in an attempt to show it's actually quite possible for Santa to deliver presents in one night. At the end of his explanation he says, "Oh, and of course you have to take out all of the single-child families, because you know those kids are spoiled and won't get nuttin'!" To him I say poo! Abby's buckin' the standard deviation!!

We may or may not have had a fair amount of treats. We started a new tradition this year. Abby, who is pining away in her love for Cayden Smith in her first grade class (who, sadly, moved to Texas...not, however, sad for Brandon who is happy to see him go) announced that Cayden's family leaves those rubbery chocolate mini donuts for Santa and thus we should do. I am sorry, but I know the Santa that visits our house wouldn't touch those donuts (well, that's not true, their covered in chocolate- santa would probably eat a whole sleeve truth be told). However, we are trying to keep our standards up and instituted the fresh, homemade donut on Christmas eve tradition. And let me tell you, it's a keeper! We kept the donuts coming long after Christmas eve....we are all a little sick and a bit more rotund, but it's hot donuts, so we won't complain.

This was the Leavitt Lady's one horse open sleigh this year. Brandon was gone for a fair share of weekends during December and Abby and I delivered presents, decked the halls, and spread out holiday cheer while listening to 106.5. Abby took this picture while we were delivering gifts on a Saturday morning. Please note my coordinating Christmas outfit. I love a theme outfit.
Another Christmas tradition...and the taste of defeat is still bitter in my mouth. Our annual Gingerbread house competition. Here are the entries displayed in order of success from left to right. Seeing our little blue house is second from the left, you'll understand that we came in second to that little log cabin number. Which, is fine. If uncle Ryan wants to spend $50 bucks at Smith's to whomp on his brothers, sisters and their small children, then that's just all fine and Christmasy. The annual trophy goes to Ryan...but just you wait...I'm going to get a pinterest board just dedicated to gingerbread house design and construction. Moving on...
Now this is how gingerbread houses should be done. I was able to help Abby's class build gingerbread houses this year (they tied it into their math lessons, because they should be 'symmetrical'). Loved it! Loved the frosting mustaches, dipped pony tails, sugar crusted elbows...I love first graders. This is a great age!
Another great tradition, the santa train! And again, Brandon missed it (he was snowboarding with his pal Clay). This is Abby with Mrs. Claus. When she stopped by us I said, "Mrs. Claus, please meet Abigail, she's a huge fan!" Abby beamed, because she is truly a big fan. We had a long conversation with Mrs. Claus about how she is under represented in Christmas lore and that she undoubtedly does much more than she gets credit for, and that it's a shame that such a positive female role model doesn't get more notice or attention. She affirmed that this is sadly the case and encouraged us to keep up the fight for female folklore figurehead suffrage. We promised her we would. Overall, very positive experience.
We went on the Santa train with 50 of our closest friends, including the Chatwins. This is Abby's pal Emma. On the ride we had a great view out the window of desert, trash, and some guy sleeping on the rocks with a back pack. I love scenic Nevada!
Abby and her pal Lacey riding "Reindeer" at Springs Preserve (they are really ponies with antlers on). Springs Preserve was a great night. The South Pointe primary was invited to sing 2 twenty minute sets and they would pay us. We practiced hard, we had some fabulous  numbers, I got to play the piano in public for the first time ever. It was great! We used the money to fund a service project of delivering gifts and cards while caroling to the single ladies and widows in our neighborhoods and ward. It was super, duper fun!

Other Christmas noteables:
  • Abby went roller skating for the first time. Yes, she skated into the wall (that's why they're carpeted, don't worry, she's fine) but she loved every minute of it!
  • Cookie decorating party and pizza with our friends. Good, deafening fun!
  • Brandon went to his company christmas party in Missouri. Had a great time, other than having to share a hotel room with another attorney he didn't know.
  • Ward Christmas party was fun this year and the primary sang. Love my primary kiddos!
  • We had a farewell dinner with our friends, the Marthalers. They're moving back to Arizona. It is tragically sad for us and good for them. They have been such an inspiration of faith, fun, and positivity. They will be sorely missed.
  • Went to Bass Pro shop with our friends the Smiths. They have a great Santa!
  • Annual Hanson Christmas party was super fun! I came back with a full Rudolph outfit for my car...which, I lacked the courage to put on and I am terribly surprised by that. I do, however, feel like I could easily do the wreath on the grill.
  • Saw the living nativity/petting zoo (you wouldn't think those two things go together, but they do) at the Green Valley Baptist church. Such a quality production. Highlight of my Christmas!
  • Had a big Leavitt/Wallace Christmas lunch and were able to see Delmont and Wanda.
  • Saw my friend Becky sing with her Sisters. "Breath of Heaven" brought tears to my eyes!
  • Had a marshmallow roast with some of our friends, the gerace boys, and the missionaries.
  • While Brandon was snowboarding, he developed altitude sickness, puked 12 times on one run. Probably most miserable snowboarding experience of his life.
  • Abby had her traditional meltdown that santa was coming. Whole concept is terrifying to her. She had nightmares all night and couldn't get to sleep because the idea of some stranger coming into her house is creepy. She left plates of oats and carrots for each reindeer and a nice note for santa. In the morning, she found that santa had spilled the oats all the way from the table to the fireplace. He's a messy one, that santa!
  • Abby sung for the family at the annual Christmas eve party. Did a lovely job! Uncle Chad also sang, had no idea he even could, but it was awesome.
  • Abby heard she was going to disneyland as a christmas gift and announced that, "All of my dreams are coming true!"
  • Christmas day, we had a monopoly tournament. I was getting soundly ahead and brandon through his money at me, called me a tyrant and told me I was just like Mr. Potter from "it's a wonderful life."
  • Ended the day with the Cactus lights at ethel M's and Josh Groban singing us Oh Holy Night.

My tredmill swag and more...

I am including this video because I made this EXACT same mistake at the gym yesterday. The only difference between this man and I was that I didn't swag-it-off.

On to less embarrassing things...like October.
  • Abby and I were lucky enough to rock out with cousins at an Imagination Movers concert.
  • Celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with our good friends (I guess Max Smith is half Canadian, who knew?)
  • I directed and have a cameo in Capstone Capital's new commercial. I also wrote the content for the webpage. Not that I'm tooting horns...*TOOT!!!* capstonecap.com *TOOT!!!*
  • We had an 11-year-old boy dance party at my house. I mistakenly served mini marshmallows for an ice cream topping. I'm still finding them in the strangest places.
  • Abby started hip hop dance.
  • We went to the haunted harvest at springs preserve and had a frightfully good time.
  • We had harvest festival and this was my first year volunteering. I had a few things on my list, but the one I failed most miserably at was the gift basket for the silent auction. It was a fabulous basket by virtue of the nice donations....but who knew I couldn't wrap a gift basket worth beans? It had a very homeless shelter chic to it.
  • I was taken on the most awesome of anniversary dates (11 years my friends!). He surprised me with limo service from our house to Andres restaurant and to see Ka. I'm still very much in love.
  • We had a Leavitt family halloween party which was one for the record books.
  • Primary was in charge of the most epic of trunk-or-treats. I'm guessing by next year there will be media covering the event.
  • We tried to go to the outdoor movie at the District and all of us realized that we hate sitting on the ground in the cold. We're going to rain check that until next year when we invest in some lawn chairs.
  • I had a fantastic birthday and we partied up on Halloween like nobody's business!
The Giffeth's had their annual (and awesome) Halloween party with a tasty dinner and trick-or-treating in their super fun neighborhood. (If you can't tell, Abby is Christine Dae from Phantom of the Opera in the Masquerade Scene. She's known she wants to be that since July.)
We also were able to walk as an extended Leavitt family (by extended, I mean there was 114 of us) in the Juvenile Diabetes Research fundraiser walk. I think I should have won a prize for best accessorized. My scarf looks jaunty.
Goodbye October! You are a favorite of mine!

33 things about Brandon-ie Baloney

My stallion of a husband turns the ripe age of 33 today and it has become my tradition to share little tidbits about Brandon on his birthday. With no further adieu, I present 33 things you may not have known about Brandon K. Leavitt:

1.) He wants Lasik so bad he can almost taste it.
2.) He regularly fantasizes about being on the Oregon Coast and eating clam chowder.
3.) The final scene in Tangled...the one where Rapunzel finds her parents again....yeah, he cries every time.
4.) He's trying to grow out his hair...
5.) ...because he's growing out his hair, when he wakes up in the morning he looks exactly like Flint Lockwood from Couldy with a Chance of Meatballs.
6.) He loves to hear his parents and grandparents tell stories of their growing up years.
7.) He has a favorite flower, but it's so girly I won't put it on here. (cialis lilly)
8.) His new favorite show is Duck Dynasty on A&E.
9.) One of the most hilarious moments of my life was watching Brandon unknowingly eat a dollop of wasabi mustard. He made a lot of barnyard animal sounds and drooled openly.
10.) He loves to get the mail.
11.) His current favorite snack is Morning Star vegetarian corn dogs. He calls them "Corn Doggies."
12.) If the movie Rocky is on (whether Rocky 1, 2, 3...50), he will watch it.
13.) He has a slew of regularly used nicknames: "Brandony Baloney," "B-Cakes," "B-Diggs," "B-Dog," "B-Boney-Bone."
14.) His favorite pet name to be called is "Sweetheart." He melts like butter when he hears it...which isn't often, because it's a mouthful and feels old fashioned on the tongue.
15.) He talks during movies.
16.) His favorite soda is Squirt.
17.) He can parallel park anything, anywhere.
18.) Every time he gets a new cell phone, it's the best-thing-in-the-whole-world-look-at-all-it-can-do, and then two weeks letter he's on CNET looking for his next acquisition.
19.) He has seen every episode of Downton Abbey.
20.) When he complains, he sounds exactly like Napoleon Dynamite trying to feed his llama Tina.
21.) His big fear in life is to be maimed by a wild animal.
22.) Every year he starts wanting it to be Christmas by June or July at the latest.
23.) He does an incredible interpretative dance to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' "I'm Just a Mean Ol' Pole Cat."
24.) Being a Family Law attorney has made him an even more awesome husband and father. Instead of getting cynical and numb he's gotten protective, loyal, and dedicated.
25.) He can fit it all into the dishwasher and I don't care how full that sink was.
26.) He likes to have his toes cracked. The big one on his right foot is his favorite toe.
27.) Abby has a boy at school she likes. Brandon is in a dither. Best part? He looked her straight in the eye and seriously asked her, "Is he planning on a mission?"
28.) He likes to look over my shoulder at Pinterest. He's a closet Pinterest stalker.
29.) Pumpkin Walnut cookies with cream cheese frosting are his favorite.
30.) He's unapologetic about wearing a zebra print Snuggie when it gets cold.
31.) He got the flu once and he's been the first in line for the flu vaccine every year since.
32.) He explodes out of his clothes the moment he walks in the door.
33.) I keep thinking that no one loves their husband like I love mine...that more love couldn't be squeezed from a relationship...but as cliche as it sounds, every year I love him more. He's everything I want and he's the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!

10.08.2012

A few bits of September...

  • I started the "Whole 30" and am currently on Day 29. Google it if you're looking for a good way to torture yourself on your path to greater health and indigestion.
  • I recommended a book to my book club that ended up being highly inappropriate and I now do not know if I can go back to book club.
  • Abby tried Tae Kwon Do. We just aren't ready for that yet. Day 2, she cried. No one hit her, she didn't do anything wrong, it's just that the instructor speaks in a stern tone and she is afraid. We're going to go back to dance classes for a while and make a rump kicking machine (if she's amenable) when she's grown a bit.
  • We had our Primary Program and it was stellar! We have the BEST kids. Abby sung a solo and did a beautiful job! She song the second verse of I'm Trying to be Like Jesus all on her own and was a total pro.
  • Aunt Donna came to visit for her 50th birthday! We went to plays, museums, movies, ate and played. I haven't had a trip with my sister in 12 years. This was a total treat!! Thanks for braving the 90 degree weather for us Donna!
